1- They can wear long underwear underneath. 2- They can also wear warm leggings. 3- Warm boots and socks could keep them warm.
On top of those, as another layer, they may find a nice warm jacket perfect match with their dresses. Accessorises such as scarfs and shawls will help them feel warm and look stunning in the maternity photos as well.
I advise my clients to bring a large winter coat as well to throw on between the shots.
Some Hand warmers in your packets
Bring some ski hand warmers with you to put them in your coat packets. You would be surprised when your fingers touch the warmers. The heat flows through your fingers to your body and makes you comfortable and warm for a good portion of your maternity session.
I suggest a pre heated car close by the location for warming up as well.
Prepare siblings with warm outfits
If the siblings do choose to get involved, please make them prepared with warm and comfortable clothing. Dress them for the wintertime. Keep them in a warm and comfort area like your pre heated car close by until their turn comes up. Young kids can not tolerate cold weather as much as adults can. Cold makes children unhappy and an unhappy kid will not cooperate in a maternity photo session.
Okay, now that I have talked a lot about outdoor maternity photos in Edmonton the in cold seasons. There is another option which is “indoor maternity photos”. Obviously, indoor photography would be easier and more convenient for families specially in Winter.
I listed a few possibilities below for indoor maternity photos in Edmonton.
My studio
The first option for indoor maternity photos in Edmonton could be my studio. It is a nice and cozy area equipped with all professional gear. The style of the maternity photos would be a studio style with different backdrops and accessories, professional lighting. In the warm environment of the studio, the clients have opportunity to change their clothing as many as they wish for their maternity photos based on the appointment time. And more importantly, they don’t worry about their other children because of cold weather when they involve the maternity photos.
In-home service
The second option for indoor maternity photos in Edmonton could be in-home service. It means that I will photograph my clients’ maternity photos in their home and it could be done in a variety of styles. 1- I can offer to set up a portable professional studio with professional lighting and backdrops in their comfort of their home. In this method, the maternity photos would look be studio styled and they won’t see any part of the home in the pictures. This is very convenient for families because they don’t need to travel to a studio.
2- I can capture the maternity photos in their home by using actual walls as backdrops, their furniture and decorations. It is called life style maternity photos. They will select some locations in their home to photograph different poses. In this case, one of the most favorite locations for moms is the baby nursery room. They have already decorated the baby nursery room for the new baby and would love to have a few maternity photos with the decorations as memorable keepsakes.
3- I would be able to offer tehem a combination of both above. It will cover two different styles for who love studio photos and also would like to have some casual and life style maternity photos to capture those special moments in their home environment.
Public areas
The third option for indoor maternity photos in Edmonton might be utilizing a public area such as a book store, an art gallery, a theater scene etc. The location will be selected based on my clients’ preferences and interests. I will offer this type of indoor maternity photography to moms who desire to capture their maternity photos in a unique manner. This might be considered lifestyle photography category with casual outfits. But we also can change it a bit by dressing the mom in an elegant flowy maternity dress and photograph various of poses in her favorite public area.
