I want to share a new article with you in this post as an Edmonton maternity photographer.

There are some main elements during a maternity session that can increase the quality of maternity photos and lacking of any of them may change the photos in a negative way.

I don’t want to dive deep into the technicalities of these but I want to explain one of the most important elements during a maternity photography session for you which is super effective.

Posing is one of the most influential factors in a maternity photo session.
Basically, I’d like to present various of posing techniques to my clients then they can choose the ones they like.

Pregnancy might limit them to do all the poses. For example; they can not sit on the ground or may not be able stand up for long time.
Therefore, as an Edmonton maternity photographer, I understand the situation and pose my clients based on their preferences and abilities.

I collected some different poses for maternity photoshoots which might help moms to have a smooth and perfect session.

1- Walking pose: This is one the easiest pose to start. A Pregnant couple is holding hands while they are walking (or pretend to walk in a studio photoshoot). Look out at the distance then look at each other.
Get closer and both look at the belly.
I prefer to involve kids later as it may be less intimidating for them.

2- Face to face: stand in front of each other, belly to belly, holding both hands and both look at the mother’s belly, and/or look at each other nose to nose. At this point, I can have them kiss, the partner can kiss the mother’s forehead.

3- Wrap your belly: This is a flattering pose for a pregnant mom. Pose her hand wrapping around the belly while she is standing and looking over her shoulder. It could be captured from different angles and sizes.

4- The belly close up: This works very well to exaggerate the belly size. The pregnant mom stands in front of the camera and the partner gets behind her then he wraps his hand top of the mom’s belly and other hand bottom of the belly. The pregnant mom will do the opposite to wrap her belly fully.

5- Make a heart on the belly: Pose the pregnant couple shoulder to shoulder. Have the mom’s partner kiss her forehead while he is snuggling her, he makes half a heart shape with his fingers on the pregnant belly. Mom will complete the shape with her opposite hand while she closes her eyes.

6- Siblings’ photos: It’s time to have the kids join the session. As a maternity photographer, I would love to involve the young kids in maternity photos. It contributes to the connection and love between family members. Pose the pregnant mom sitting on a bench or chair and kids stand up beside her belly, have them kiss the belly while they wrap the belly with their hands and look at it.

All those poses could be taken from a variety of angles and levels. However, I always ensure to capture the beauty and make it outstanding while the client chooses the angle that works the best.
All right, I shared some of my favorite poses from my years being an Edmonton maternity photographer. Hope this post helps you.
So, stay tuned and won’t miss anything.
